Wolfgang: The Kiss of Judas

For this month, a new band on the roll. One of my favorite bands in OPM, they have been in the music industry for quite some and defined what is called Pinoy Rock Songs. As an introduction to them, I offer this song and definitely there most popular one. It is one of the videoke favorites and a song you wanna sing when you want to scream out loud.  Presenting WOLFGANG!!!!

Mga asong naloloko
Nagpapanggap na tao
Pangakong matamis
Puro langaw at ipis
Sa bawat tabi at sulok
Pagkatao'y nabubulok
Nakalubog na sa kabaong
Lalo pang binabaon

Tao sa pangil ng buwaya
Kapangyarihan ng halik ni hudas

Ubos nang mga bayani
Mga duwag ang nalalabi
Kunwari'y matatapang
Ihahango sa kahirapan
Kukunin niya lahat sayo
Isip at kaluluwa
Pagkatao mo'y papasukin
Tapos dudurugin

Tao sa pangil ng buwaya
Kapangyarihan ng halik ni hudas

Magtiwala ka sa akin
Kaligtasan mo ako
Dito ka susunugin
Sa aking paraiso

Sumunod sa mga utos
Mga lason na pangako
Kanyang mga kamay
Mga batong pumapatay

Kaibigang nakaitim
Dadalhin ka sa dilim
Magpailalim sa kanya
Nakatali na kadena

Tao sa pangil ng buwaya
Kapangyarihan ng halik ni hudas

Tao sa pangil ng buwaya
Kapangyarihan ng halik ni hudas

Eraserheads: Gatekeeper

This song was written by Raymund Marasigan who has a very peculiar way in his lyrics but nonetheless something you can appreciate. This forms another side of music of Eheads in which Raymund takes the role of leader, the more technical sound of Eraserheads. Listen to the song and see for yourself the hidden meanings of the GATEKEEPER.

Gatekeeper, gatekeeper
Please let us in with her
Gatekeeper

I have been here
When this town was born
Secrets I own
To keep I have sworn
If you have none
Then go flee away
Bring me new tidings
And see me some other day

Hid my will, hid my will

Then they return
So soon from their quest
Lost boys of town
Came back with a guest
She was no druid
But if you incite
They have some stories to add
To bobo's delight

Tales so unordinary
Aliens look strange
We'll talk about yuletide
Graft and corruptions
Nuclear gifts exchange
Talk about crime, slime on the great vine
Now I am inclined to let you
Let you in with her
Coz I'm the gatekeeper

Gatekeeper, gatekeeper
You may come in with her
Gatekeeper

Eraserheads: Huwag Mo ng Itanong

Don’t ask. That is the translation of the title this song, Huwag Mo ng Itanong, which has a very playful lyrics which tells how a guy cannot follow the moody nature of his girlfriend. And yes this song is dedicated to most of the guys who have problems in reading the minds of their partners who suddenly shifts its mood. In a minute she was very happy chatting with you and in a second as the song dictates changes and you will never know what hit you. The line of the song tells us how the girls mind was very unpredictable, like a sweepstake, very difficult to win. He was out of breath just following what she wants and at the end after a moody day, the girl will ask, “What’s wrong with you?”. And you just have to say, don’t ask.

Hika ang inabot ko
Nang piliting sumabay sa'yo
Hanggang kanto
Ng isipan mong parang Sweepstakes
Ang hirap manalalo
Ngayon pagdating ko sa bahay
Ibaba ang iyong kilay
Ayoko ng ingay

[CHORUS]
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
Diko rin naman sasabihin
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
At di ko naiisipin

Field trip sa may pagawaan ng lapis
Ay katulad ng buhay natin
Isang mahabang pila
Mabagal at walang katuturan
Ewan ko Hindi ko alam
Puwede bang huwag na lang
Natin pag-usapan

[CHORUS]
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
Diko rin naman sasabihin
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
At di ko naiisipin

Ewan ko Hindi ko alam
Puwede bang huwag na lang
Natin pag-usapan

Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
Diko rin naman sasabihin
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
At di ko na iisipin

Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
Diko rin naman sasabihin
Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin
At di ko na iisipin

And guy, the live version:

Eraserheads: Fill Her

Absolutely one of my favorite from the Eraserheads, just listening to this song makes you hold someone dearest to you and tell her how much you love her. Though I can’t see you, I can feel you. . . .  I’m so glad you opened the door.

you don't need to live
it seems a bit naive
no need to disagree
or seek my history
you're staring at my soul
my sanity you stole
but then i knew all along
that anything could go wrong
though i can't see you i can't feel you
i'm so glad you opened my door
and when i get near all my fears disappear
and i won't be alone anymore
hmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmm
hmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmm

Eraser: Harana

Harana. In the Philippines, there is a tradition called Harana. One cool night when the moon shines bright, with your guitar and some trusted friends, you seek the house of a beautiful maiden. With the strum of the guitar and with the song you have practiced. Hoping you never be out of tune. You serenade her to get her heart. It was a common tradition of the Pinoy to serenade the woman that he likes  and with this, he also courts the family. Its upto the parents to accept him or shove some dung shit to the wanna be singers. Anyway, this song entitled Harana, is about a guys love and he was assuring that even what the other people says about him, his love will remain true for her.

Wag nang malumbay
Ang pag-ibig ko ay tunay
Sabihin man ng 'yung nanay na
Wala akong silbi sa buhay...tunay
Kung ako ang papipiliin
Ay nag Amsterdam na ako
Wag mo lang akong pipilitin
Na wag gumamit ng gaheto
Buksan mo ang yung bintana
Dungawin ang humahanga
Bitbit ko ang gitara
At handa ng mang-harana
Na..na..na.naaaaa..
Wag nang malumbay
Ang pag-ibig ko ay tunay
Sabihin man nang yung kapit bahay
Na di ako nag susuklay
Oh..tunay
Kung ako ang papipiliin
Ay nag congressman na ako
Wag mo lang akong pipilitin na
Isuli ang bayad nyo
Tumutunog ang kampana
Hali ka na sa dambana
Bitbit ko ang guitara at handa ng
Mang harana
Na..na..na..naaaaaaaa
(Repeat Chorus)

Eraserheads: Fine Time

Fine Time. Another one of the songs by the Eraserheads which you can listen for relaxation. Just similar with Fruitcake or Overdrive. Lazy days and you just want to lie down and see the clouds.  How things would be just fine with being someone else you cherish about. Another showcase of Ely’s voice which is very unique and very comforting to listen.

Chorus:
I hope we could spend more time together
A few hours is better than never
If we could only make it longer
A whole day would be fine
A whole day would be fine
A whole day would be fine
A whole day would be fine
I think it's time to clean your car
I'm not home if someone calls
We could go out for a day
We could sing some songs we hate
Why not swim in someone's pool
Jump a crane 12 storeys high
Have a picnic in my room
Sit outside and watch the moo
(chorus)
We could drive in to the malls
Or stay home and watch TV
I don't care if we don't have lunch
Just as long as we have iced tea
I could take you to a film
Hunt for books and magazines
Is that new song out on sale
I think that dress is kinda pale
(chorus)
There are times when we disagree
My heart sings to the sea
I'm always anxious when we kiss on me
Please don't tire of understanding me
Being with you makes me feel so safe
I don't care if we go out of town
I don't care if we sleep all day
Basta't kayakap ka ay okey
(chorus)
A whole week would be fine
A whole month would be fine
A whole year would be fine
A decade would fine
A century would be fine
Fine, fine time (4x)
Forever would be fine.

Eraserheads: Tindahan ni Aling Nena

Tindahan ni Aling Nena (The Store of Aling Nena),  a song which tells a story about a guy who bought vinegar from Aling Nena’s store and  found the most beautiful girl there. She was Aling Nena’s daughter and eventually he had fallen in love with her. He had asked Aling Nena to introduce him to her, the store owner agreed on the condition that he would buy something from her store everyday. He agreed and he was very happy that he would finally be introduced to the girl. The chorus sings about the guy’s wonderful moment in the store which in his mind was alike a movie story when he had met the girl. He describe that Tindahan ni Aling Nena has a lot of items to sell but the one he wanted cannot be bought with money. However when he was introduced, the girl just looked at him and shrugged.  The end of the story was just another disappointment for the guy because, “anong nangyari? (what happened?)” “Wala (nothing).”

Chorus:
Tindahan ni Aling Nena
Parang isang kuwentong pampelikula

(Repeat Chorus)

Hindi mapigil ang damdamin
Ako'y nagmakaawang ipakilala
Payag daw siya kung araw-araw
Ay meron akong binibili sa tinda niya.
Ako'y pumayag at pinakilala niya
Sa Kanyang kaisa-isang dalaga
Ngunit nang makilala, siya'y tumalikod na
At iniwan akong nakatanga.

(Repeat Chorus)

Chorus 2:
Tindahan ni Aling Nena
Dito nauubos ang aking pera
Araw-araw ay naghihintay
O Aling Nena, plis naman, maawa ka

Alam ninyo'ng nangyari?

Finale:
Wala... wala... ahh...
O Diyos ko!
Wala... wala... ahh...
